Story
I need encouragement…. and a strong incentive to complete a challenge!
On May 8th, I am going to start a bicycle ride (no not an e-bike) from Lands End in the southwest of England to John o’Groats in the northeast of Scotland (LEJOG). The ride is just over a 1,000 miles and will involve a total ascent of 53,000 feet. The plan is to complete this in sixteen days, for an average of 63 miles and 3,200 feet of ascent per day.
I am old, overweight, asthmatic, and have bad knees. A couple of weeks ago I stopped training for one week due to pain in one of my knees. The little training that I have completed shows me what a herculean effort will be needed to finish.
However, if I am doing this challenge to raise funds for a good cause, I will have an incentive to complete each of these miles and all of that gruelling ascent!
Raising funds for the Shelford and Stapleford Youth Initiative (SSYI) https://www.ssyi.club will be a strong incentive. SSYI is a charity that provides support for young people, community facilities, clubs, and activities in the Shelford's, Stapleford, Sawston ,and Duxford area (the community where I now live). Many youth can feel isolated in these villages, due to their relatively small size and poor public transportation services. SSYI is a Youth Charity whose objective is to promote the physical, mental, educational, social and spiritual welfare of young people, by the provision of youth services and community facilities.
Please will you encouragement me to complete this ride by using the attached link to contribute to the SSYI?
