Story
This March, I'm walking 50 miles to fundraise for Mermaids!
The political and cultural climate for young trans people is hideous right now. We have just seen the puberty blocker ban for trans kids in the UK, a scientifically unfounded decision that will wreck the well-being of so many trans youth. In the last few years, there have been spikes in recorded hate crimes against transgender people in England and Wales, and waiting lists for NHS GIC referrals are often over five years long for patients. I can personally attest to this: I have been on the waiting list for Tavistock since June 2019 and they contacted me for the first time in December 2024 (I still don't have an initial GIC appointment set up).
Mermaids does incredible work supporting young trans people and their families, a vital service they need now more than ever. I wish I had had access to this kind of service as a kid! Please contribute to my fundraiser to help ensure trans young people and their families can continue to access the emotional, informative, and peer-to-peer support they deserve.
I will be walking/running/jogging enough to accumulate 50 miles all over London from 1 - 31 March 2025. I will be tracking my progress through the Strava app. My fundraising goal is £100 but it would be wonderful if we could beat that!
