Story

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page. On March 3rd, 2024, George was running the Cambridge Half Marathon, a crucial step towards the Prague Marathon later that year. The race was going well and George was likely to get a PB unfortunately though, just 500 meters from the finish line, he suffered a sudden cardiac arrest. Thanks to the swift actions of three remarkable consultants who were also participating in the race, he was given a second chance at life. Their expertise and quick thinking were instrumental in his survival.

After being rushed to Addenbrookes Hospital and subsequently transferred to Royal Papworth Hospital under the care of one of those lifesaving consultants, he underwent surgery to fit an EV-ICD (an internal defibrillator) to prevent future cardiac arrests. The compassion and professionalism displayed by the race course staff, paramedics, and A&E teams were nothing short of extraordinary. We are forever grateful for their dedication.

As we celebrate our 25th (plus 1) anniversary surrounded by family, we reflect on how different this moment could have been without the incredible work done at Royal Papworth Hospital. Many have asked what gifts they can bring to our celebration; we kindly request that instead of gifts, you consider donating to Royal Papworth Hospital Charity. Your contributions will help support their vital work in heart and lung disease research and patient care.

Royal Papworth Charity plays an essential role in ensuring that this hospital continues to provide exceptional care amidst increasing pressures on the NHS. By investing in staff development and improving patient environments, they make groundbreaking advancements possible every day.

We invite you to join us in supporting this cause that has touched our lives so deeply. Together, we can help ensure that others receive the same life-saving care that made our celebration possible.

George and Malina are hoping to run the Cambridge Half in 2026 and will continue fundraising through this page...watch this space for updates!!

Our target is £2000 by April 2026 (hopefully after successfully running Cambridge half in March 2026) . Every donation counts and brings us closer to making a difference.
