Story
Hi Everyone,
Thanks for taking a look at my JustGiving page.
I'm running the Great North Run in September, to raise money for Fibromyalgia Action UK. They are a primarily volunteer-run charity offering support and guidance for people living with fibromyalgia and their families.
Not many people know that I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 2004, following an initial diagnosis of CFS in 1997. My personal journey has been difficult, as I've often felt embarrassed about my diagnosis and have tried to hide or downplay my symptoms. For me, these are primarily constant pain, fatigue, and a sensitivity to the cold.
This has largely stemmed from many healthcare professionals I've encountered who have dismissed my experience of fibromyalgia and ignored my pleas for help. This has only worsened over the last few years.
Therefore, I've decided I would like to run the GNR to support Fibromyalgia Action UK, whose only source of income comes from charitable donations. My aim is to help promote awareness as well as research into the condition.
I would be incredibly grateful if you would sponsor me. I know personally that many people with fibromyalgia feel unheard and unseen, and I really want to raise public awareness of the condition.
I'll be starting my training properly towards the end of April and will be logging my progress weekly. Any advice or company on runs would be greatly appreciated.
