Mend the Gap promotes the cause of education and reduces poverty to benefit the poorest and most isolated communities in Eastern Africa and the UK for the benefit of current and future generations. It achieves this by making bridges and creating links between people from different backgrounds.

Story

In February 2024, I will be embarking on a personal trek up Mount Longonot in the Great Rift Valley, Kenya. I am doing this to raise funds for Mend the Gap, a UK registered charity that supports education and poverty alleviation projects in rural communities in Kenya. The funds raised will be used to increase the number of bee hives in the women's bee hive cooperative in Perimart, Maasai Mara. This initiative empowers women by providing them with a modest but independent income which allows them to pay school fees for their children. These women have not had the benefit of education themselves but are doing their hardest to give their children better opportunities in life through sending them to school. Their determination and resilience are truly inspirational as they have kept the bee hives going despite all challenges that climate change and family obligations throw at them.

By supporting my fundraising efforts, you can help make a difference in these women's lives and contribute towards breaking the cycle of poverty. Every little bit counts towards our target amount of £1,000 which will go directly towards this cause.
