Story
The "Athletes" (And we use that term loosely) A few years ago, the only "marathon" Paul Healy and Ryan Harkin were interested in involved a long session at the end of a bar and a very determined walk to the chippy afterwards.
We’ve managed to trade the bar stools for running shoes lately, ticking off a few half-marathons along the way. However, we’ve always had an itch to tackle the full 26.2 miles. We decided that May 3rd, 2026, is the year to finally do the Belfast City Marathon—mostly because if we wait any longer, our knees might officially go on strike.
The Cause: Men’s Action Network (MAN) While we’re having a laugh at our own expense, the reason we are running is incredibly serious. We are raising money for Men’s Action Network (MAN) in Derry.
MAN is a vital lifeline in the North West, providing a "safe space" for men facing:
Domestic abuse and relationship breakdown.
Severe mental health crises and suicide risk.
Social isolation and the struggles of fatherhood in crisis.
The Crisis Despite saving and changing lives daily, MAN is currently facing a massive uphill battle. Significant funding cuts and a glaring disparity in support for men’s services have left them under immense financial strain. Recently, they were even forced into the heartbreaking position of having to suspend some services. We cannot let these doors close for good.
Our Community Goal: The Weekly 5km We don’t just want your donations; we want your company. To support those who want to start their own journey, we are hosting a weekly 5km run starting from the MAN offices.
This isn't a race. It’s a slow-paced, "chatty" run for everyone—whether you're a seasoned runner, a total beginner, or just someone who needs a bit of fresh air and a vent. If you need a running partner or just someone to talk to, come join us.
How You Can Help We’re putting in the miles (and the Deep Heat) to make sure MAN can keep their lights on and their counseling rooms open. Please donate whatever you can. Every penny goes toward ensuring that when a man in our community reaches out for help, there is someone there to answer.
Help us keep MAN running while we try to keep ourselves running!
