Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My late husband, Joseph, struggled for much of his life with a variety of mental health issues - largely without professional support as he was so conscious of the stigma attached to these issues, particularly for men. MANUP? is the UK's biggest charity dedicated specifically to raising the profile of men's mental health and encouraging men to be brave enough to share their struggles and seek help. So, to mark the second anniversary of Joseph's death, I am looking to raise at least £500 to help this important cause.
My personal challenge is to walk to the summit of Southern Scotland's highest mountain, The Merrick, and back to the start point near Glentrool - a total of around 8 miles (around a 4 hour hike). Not the biggest challenge in itself, but I will be doing the walk totally naked (apart from my walking boots) as a physical illustration of the courage it takes for so many men to expose their mental struggles to the scrutiny of others - stripping their emotional selves bare and becoming vulnerable to the responses of others.
Please consider sponsoring me for this challenge, as generously as you are able (but even the price of a cup of coffee will make a difference). The folk at MANUP? will put the monies raised to good use in trying to ensure that folk like Joseph get the support and help they need to overcome their personal challenges - which last far longer and require far more bravery to face up to than my 4 hours of being naked on a Scottish mountainside!
