Story

Hi everyone,

So it is with great sadness that I have an update to my story below, that last week my aunty lost her fight with Alzheimers and is now out of the pain and suffering endured by this awful disease. It makes the walk even more important to me and I am determined to finish it.

So many people are affected by Alzheimers and in the last couple of years it has affected our family. My aunty who was always so happy, sociable and caring is no longer able to speak to us, is immobile and a complete shell of her former self. She deteriorated quickly and it so sad to see. I go to visit her and sometimes see a spark that reminds me of the person she once was, but know will never be again. I wanted to do something to help to try to stop this happening to others and I came across Trek 26 with the Alzheimer's Society.

Alzheimer’s Society are working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. They do this by giving help to those living with dementia today and by providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding ground-breaking research.

My friend Tammy Coogan and I have decided to undertake a mammoth task of raising money for Alzheimers Society together by walking 26 miles around Ullswater in the Lake District on the 1st June. For those of you that know us both well, you will realise that we are already so busy with jobs, families, house DIY etc that we are going to struggle to get the training in (and we have), let alone do the actual walk and that is why we have been so last minute at getting our just giving pages live...but we are determined to do this. It's important to us and we are looking forward to the day itself!

We recognise that times are hard for everyone, but we absolutely appreciate whatever you can donate, however small, to give us even more determination to get around the marathon trek. Together we can make a difference!
