I along with 15 others will be taking part in the Manchester Marathon on Sunday 19th April 2026 – the UK’s second largest marathon.

But for us, it’s more than just 26.2 miles – every step is a lifeline for widows and orphans in Jordan as well as families who have lost everything and are struggling to survive. Through this marathon, we’re running to give them safety, dignity, and hope for a brighter future.

Why We’re Running

In Mafraq, northern Jordan, widows and orphans face some of the harshest struggles of displacement and poverty. Many refugees live in makeshift tents or overcrowded shelters, with little protection from the burning summer heat or freezing winter cold.

For widows raising children alone, life outside the camps can feel unsafe and overwhelming. Children grow up without security, stability, or the chance to thrive.

That’s why Benefit Mankind established the Orphan & Widow Centre in Mafraq – a safe haven where families can rebuild their lives.

Every contribution you make transforms lives—giving widows and orphans the safety, support, and hope they desperately need.

• 79 orphans will receive safe housing, education support, counselling, and welfare so they can grow up with stability and hope.

• 29 widows and carers will find protection, training opportunities, and the chance to rebuild their lives with dignity.

• Families will receive food parcels, hygiene kits, and clothing, easing the daily burden of poverty.
