21 April 2024 I’m going to run a marathon for the first time in aid of my Dad and Parkinson’s UK.

15 years ago we starting to see changes in Dad, he complained of being stiff more often and his driving became concerning. I love this man and nothing bothers me more than seeing this proud, independent, caring, enterprising person start to decline.

Helplessness is not something I think Bob knows.

Although difficult at first, we have supported Dad through treatments and adaptions to keep as much independence as possible. The resources and research from Parkinson’s UK has been instrumental in keeping Bob mobile and able to do as much as he can. It’s a shining light on what could be a bleak horizon.

To be poetic, and a little soppy, I can imagine that after finishing the marathon, I will probably feel like Dad does at the end of some days. That’s something I don’t think many of the people I know understand.

Throughout my journey of endless trudging the wet wintery pavements, I’m going to be raising awareness of Dad’s experiences, tips and successes.

Anything you can give really does go to an amazing cause - helping the Bob’s of the world stay their amazing, witty, silly, caring selves for as long as possible until, one day we will cure this disease.
