I’ve known Michael and Debbie for around 20 years. We work in the same industry and over the years have produced a number of global conferences together, travelling, problem-solving, and building friendships alongside the work. When you spend that much time with people, you don’t just know their professional lives, you get to know their families, their stories and the things that really matter to them.

When Darcy died, it was devastating. As a father myself, it brought home just how fragile and precious our children are and how deeply a loss like that cuts through every part of a family’s life.

That’s why I’m taking on this challenge.

In November 2026, Meri and I will be walking 100 kilometres across the Sahara Desert to support PAPYRUS, the charity dedicated to preventing young suicide and supporting young people in crisis. This walk is a way of standing with Michael and Debbie, of honouring Darcy’s memory and helping to ensure more young people and families get the support they need when life feels overwhelming.

This isn’t about ticking off a personal achievement. It’s about doing something meaningful with people I respect, for a cause that matters.
