Story

HELLO and a big welcome!!!

Here's a bit of info on why I am running my first 1/2 marathon in support of The RST ☺️

Exercise has always been a big part of my life, but in 2017, a chronic foot injury forced me to stop. Living with constant pain, I came to truly understand how much our quality of life depends on our ability to move, stay active, and feel healthy in our bodies.

Eighteen months ago, I experienced a most serendipitous in person encounter with Marrianne Rooprai. Marrianne suffered a life-changing spinal cord injury 20 years ago, leaving her paralysed from the shoulders down. Through relentless perseverance and consistency with her physio, she has regained a lot of function, and in turn, quality of life.

She is the co-founder of the Rooprai Spinal Trust (RST), a charity dedicated to helping individuals with spinal cord injuries regain movement, independence, and a sense of purpose in life. What started as me bravely saying hello has grown into a beautiful friendship, and her story continues to inspire me every single day.

This journey also feels deeply personal. My grandmother, who was such a strong and independent woman, gradually lost her independence to Parkinson’s disease. I witnessed the devastating effects of her illness as she lost the ability to walk, move freely, and eventually speak. Despite the challenges, she faced it all with grace and courage, which taught me so much about resilience. Watching her struggle reinforced just how precious our health and mobility are, and it’s a big part of why this cause is so close to my heart.

Now, as I work my way back to fitness and prepare to run my first ever half marathon (!!!) I want to show that no matter the challenges we face, we can rise above them. As a doctor and life coach, I hope my story inspires others to embrace movement and care for our health, because it truly is one of our greatest gifts.

I’m running for Marrianne, for my grandmother, and for everyone striving to overcome life’s challenges. By supporting the Rooprai Spinal Trust, we can help transform the lives of people with spinal cord injuries, giving them the chance to regain movement, independence, and hope. Every penny raised will make a real difference.

Thank you for supporting me and this amazing cause!
