#YourRoR: The Biathlon of EXTREME Foolishness

Marc Cornelius is raising money for Mission Motorsport

Biathlon of EXTREME Foolishness · 10 November 2025

Mission Motorsport, The Forces' Motorsport Charity was founded in 2012 to aid in the recovery and rehabilitation of those affected by Military Operations by providing opportunities through Motorsport and the automotive industry, using motorsport as a tool to support those harder to reach.

Story

For the past couple of years, I have taken part in something called the Biathlon of Foolishness at Mission Motorsport's Race of Remembrance at Anglesey's Trac Mon. This involves running around part of the race circuit followed by a scramble down some cliffs into the Irish Sea for a quick dip and then back up the cliff and back to the race paddock (all in fancy dress) before jumping in a race car to compete in a 12 hour endurance car race.

This year I won't be competing in the car race but I have foolishly agreed to take part in something called the Biathlon of EXTREME Foolishness. This will involve scaling Yr Wyddfa (aka Snowdon) before taking the plunge into Glaslyn, the highest lake in Wales. Since this is taking place on the Monday following the Race of Remembrance on the Sunday, I will almost certainly have had a couple of beverages and a hearty curry the night before, just to make it a little bit more challenging. Oh yes, and I will be in fancy dress (most likely to be in the form of a certain Australian female pop icon - IYKYK).

Why am I doing this?

As a trustee of Mission Motorsport, I have the privilege of seeing up close the fantastic work this small charity does for our Armed Forces community. I also know that every single penny that it receives through fundraising has an impact.

Race of Remembrance is such a special event and is by far the biggest fundraising event of the year for the charity. As we remember those who have served and are still serving, it only seems right that those of us who haven't served or have limited or no military connections, show our support in any way we can.
