Marcus's fundraiser for London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicines Scholarship Fund

Marcus Wootton is raising money for London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine

London to Brighton Cycle Ride 2026 · 13 September 2026 · Start fundraising for this event

We're cycling to fund life-changing scholarships at LSHTM, helping talented students from all backgrounds overcome financial barriers and improve health and health equity worldwide.

Story

On 13 September, I’m cycling from London to Brighton to raise money for the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine Scholarship Fund.

I’ve spent much of my career working in Nursing and Global Health. One of the recurring frustrations in that work is seeing very capable health professionals limited by access to education rather than by ability.

Postgraduate study is expensive. For people working in many settings, the cost can make opportunities at institutions such as LSHTM effectively inaccessible.

The LSHTM Scholarship Fund helps address that by supporting students who might otherwise be unable to take up a place.

London to Brighton is around 55 miles, with Ditchling Beacon (with a 16% gradient) helpfully placed near the end.

Just to make it a bit more exciting, I'll be doing the ride on a Brompton Bike.

If you would like to support the Scholarship Fund, I’d be very grateful.
