Cycling C2C from Whitehaven to Tynemouth

Mechanics for Africa is a Christian training college, providing young men and women from Zambia's poorest communities with scholarships to gain qualifications in automotive engineering and clerical operations. Our students graduate with great potential, lifting themselves out of poverty.

Story

In August 2024 we will be cycling from Whitehaven to Tynemouth - a total of 140 miles - to raise much needed funds for Mechanics for Africa, a technical college in the Zambian city of Ndola.

We spent four years in the early 1970's teaching in one of the poorest corners of this country and we have always had a heart for this land and its people. Our daughter, who is now a GP was born there and shares our interest and concern.

Mechanics for Africa trains young people in automotive engineering and clerical operations, equipping them with essential life skills and discipleship. Our students come from some of Zambia’s poorest communities. Our goal – to give them a step up in life and a hope for a brighter future.

Our students graduate from Mechanics for Africa with great potential, equipped to lift themselves and their families out of poverty, as well as positively contributing to their communities.
