Story

In 1965 my mum, Mae Whiteford, was a founder member of Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Scotland (previously known as the Scottish Spina Bifida Association). Despite being 93 years old she has volunteered to Zipslide the Clyde in order to raise much needed funds for the Charity in this special 60th Anniversary year.

Back in the early sixties there was no support for families whose children were born with spina bifida and hydrocephalus which is why the families came together to support each other and subsequently founded SSBA/SBHS.

I’ve always known that my Mum was a strong, determined woman who would do anything to help me lead as normal a life as possible but volunteering to Zipslide the Clyde to help other families affected by Spina Bifida and hydrocephalus has even taken me by surprise!

This is a 150ft adrenaline adventure, launching off from a crane next to the stunning Glasgow Riverside Museum.

(Mum and me in 1965 and earlier this year celebrating her 93rd birthday)

All money raised will go directly towards ensuring that everyone with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus in Scotland is supported and their individual needs are met in order to allow them to live the highest quality of life possible.

Please donate whatever you can as a little money really does go a long way!!!!

Chairperson, Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Scotland
