I'm taking on an extreme challenge with 25 colleagues for CALM – climbing the three highest peaks across four countries in the Balkans this June!

CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) is a suicide prevention charity that helps people end their misery, not their lives - and I am lucky enough to work with them every day.

Every 90 minutes, someone in the UK takes their own life. That’s why CALM exists – to change this. They run a life-saving helpline, offer vital online resources, and fight to break down the stigma around mental health and suicide.

Not only will this push me physically and mentally, but it will mean that for the first time, I will be away from both my children for more than one night.

Many of you know Amalia, my sparkly, magical and neurospicy 7 year old for whom I am a carer. What you might not know though, is the heartbreaking reality that autistic people are up to seven times more likely to attempt suicide than non-autistic people and that 8 in 10 autistic people will experience a mental health problem during their life, compared to 1 in 4 people in the general population.

So, I will attempt this challenge for Amalia, and for the thousands of people who turn to CALM’s helpline in their darkest moments. Every step I climb is for those who feel they can’t take one more.
