Story

I am 'THE' crazy donkey lady! I describe myself as having a "wealth of useless information about donkeys". They are truly the most phenomenal creatures!

Molly was the first donkey I owned and she joined our family in 2013. A few years later, she fell ill and I realized how little I knew about the care and management of donkeys. I immediately began learning all I could about them. I attended the Donkey Symposium at UC Davis in Sacramento, CA in 2019. I had the pleasure of meeting Ben Hart and learning about the Donkey Sanctuary.

My last Air Force assignment was in the UK and I’ve always hoped to go back for a visit. In 2024, I participated in the London Marathon and represented St. Jude Children’s Hospital. I arrived in London a few days early and was curious how far it was to drive to the Sanctuary. While time didn’t permit me to make it, when I pulled up the website, I learned that the Sanctuary had a Marathon Team. I inquired on how to apply for 2025. To be honest, I really didn’t want to run the marathon again, but thought it would be so amazing to run for the donkeys and spread awareness about the species. I know there were many applicants, so to be selected (especially not living in the UK) is truly an honor and privilege. I have been hard at work fundraising and sharing the mission of The Sanctuary, as well as, my knowledge of donkeys and how precious and important they are.

A little known (or thought about) fact is donkeys have played a crucial role in human societies for thousands of years, contributing significantly to human sustainment in various ways. There are still countries where people rely on donkeys for their livelihood.

Despite donkeys playing such an important role, there is very little known about them or the care they require. They are quite different from horses and there is not as much research into how to care for them.

The lack of knowledge and resources is just one reason donkeys are subjected to suffering. The vision of The Donkey Sanctuary is to have a world where donkeys are free from such suffering and their contribution to humanity is fully valued.

The organization does work in the UK as well as around the world with their partnership with other sanctuaries and rescue groups.

By donating to my page, together, we can make sure that that donkeys in the UK always have a place to go if they need one, as well as making sure that working donkeys in other countries get the care they need and deserve. Thank you for your support.
