Orkney Blide Trust provides member-led support for adults who have experience of mental health problems & their carers. We promote mental well-being through personalised support focused on strengths & recovery, encouraging individuals to participate and contribute to society on equal terms.

Story

In December 2022 we lost someone incredibly special to us. Annette meant the world to Archie, Jessie & Eilidh. If only she'd believed how much she meant to us all she just might still be with us today. Annette was a force to be reckoned with and no one would ever have believed she struggled to the extent she did. She was caring, empathetic, thoughtful. She'd do anything for anyone. She was a rock to many - including us. She was a huge support to me as a mum of three young bairns. She was a doting Auntie going above and beyond. She was and would have been so many things to the lasses that I will never be girly enough to be. She had so much worth that she just could not see. She is irreplaceable.

Unfortunately Annette lost her battle with depression. She fought hard but couldn't make it through to the other side. The Orkney Blide Trust is an organisation here that can help others fighting that fight. They have also been amazingly supportive to the family who have been grieving Annette and helping them come to terms with the shock that Annette's death was.

We would very much like to give something back to them and to perhaps help someone else and prevent another family suffering what our families have.

Orkney Blide Trust promotes mental well-being in Orkney, through active personalised support with a focus on recovery. We support over 140 people in Orkney with their recovery from mental ill health (we also help visitors and tourists in need of help). We do this by providing complementary therapies, one to one support, numerous activities e.g. Creative Writing, Crafts, Out and About trips etc. People join as members and work together with the staff team to plan and develop what we do so it meets the needs of our people.
