Story
This September myself and my friend of thirty years, Suze, are embarking on a hiking challenge to raise money and mark ten years since my daughter, Charlotte, joined Chailey Heritage Foundation.
Charlotte has a rare metabolic condition called Glutaric Aciduria Type 1 (GA1). At just seven months old she suffered a stroke, which led to quadriplegic cerebral palsy. This traumatic and terrifying time left us heartbroken with very little hope for the future. I then discovered Chailey Heritage Foundation, a charity that provides education, care and transitional services for children and young people with complex physical disabilities and health needs.
Chailey Heritage Foundation has supported Charlotte's complex health, physical, emotional and communication needs since she was four years old and has quite simply transformed her life.
The charity offers incredible facilities and care, however, so much of the equipment, therapies and services rely solely on donations. Now Charlotte is 14, Suze and I are aiming to raise money to mark her ten incredible years at Chailey Heritage and to give back a big thank you to the school that has provided so much support to her and her peers.
In an attempt to raise £1,000, we will be hiking 40km through the rugged terrain across the Northern Lake District this September, whatever the weather! Every step we take will be for Charlotte and all her friends at Chailey Heritage Foundation.
