Marina's fundraiser for Stargardt's Connected

Marina Leite Brandão is raising money for Stargardt's Connected

Open water Swimming Expedition South of Bahia - Brazil · 5 December 2025

Stargardt's Disease is an inherited progressive condition that affects the retina. It causes blurring of vision and problems in seeing fine details such as recognising faces and reading a book. Please donate to help raise awareness, give support and to fund research to find treatments and a cure.

Story

I am an adult woman living with Stargardt disease, a rare inherited eye condition that causes progressive sight loss. Despite the challenges of low vision, I am passionate about open water swimming and love exploring rivers, seas, and lakes.

My next challenge is a three-day expedition in the south of Bahia, Brazil: swimming 2–3 km in a river, 5 km in the sea, and 2 km from the mangrove to the ocean. With the support of kayaks for navigation, I will take on this journey that is both physically and mentally demanding.

I am raising funds for Stargardt’s Connected, a charity that supports people affected by Stargardt disease, builds community, and raises awareness of this rare condition. Your donation will help them continue their vital work.

Thank you so much for your support!
