Story
Instead of funeral flowers, would you please consider making a donation to the Wakefield branch of Age UK in memory of Marion Owen.
Having moved to Yorkshire from the Midlands five years ago, Tom & Marie didn't have any local friends and they were then at the mercy of isolation through COVID.
By chance they met Brenda & Amanda who work for Age UK who took them under their wing. They would often visit their flat to check in on them and they would meet monthly at the Time for Tea mornings at the local Tesco cafe. Annually they would be invited to a fancy Christmas lunch at the local hotel and we would take them to the lovely poppy drop remembrance service in Wakefield (as pictured with singer Karen Clegg). There was always an offer of a lift or a help with the wheelchair and the volunteers from Age UK would put on refreshments.
The Age UK Wakefield team have always made Marie & Tom feel welcome and they have already been in touch with Tom and invited him to join two events in December. It's been tough to make new connections and the support of Age UK has been great and they will continue to be a great support for Tom.
Any donations made will go towards reducing isolation in the local community and rather than flowers, we believe Marie would want to be able to "pay it forward".
