Story
I am walking/jogging 30 miles in November to raise money for alpha 1 because I have alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency myself and am lucky to be healthy but I know that there are many people with alpha 1 suffering from lung or liver disease. The alpha 1 charity is a great charity which supports people affected by alpha 1.
We need to raise awareness of alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency to help ensure that everyone can access the treatment that they need to live long, healthy and happy lives.
Though 30 miles a month may not seem a lot, I am blessed and lucky to be able to walk 30 miles or more in a month. There are people with my condition alpha 1 whose lung capacity and therefore walking capacity is severely compromised for whom the shortest amount of activity is a battle. As an alpha I don’t take being able to walk and exercise for granted, it is something that could be taken away from me in the future if my condition progresses.
The charity is there to support everyone whatever their stage of illness whether they are well now but worried they or their children could get sick in the future, or whether people are facing severe illness today
Together, we can make a difference for everyone affected by Alpha-1. 💪
