Story
What could possibly go wrong with cycling 765 kilometres across the French Pyrenees in six days?
Starting in Biarritz on the Atlantic coast and finishing in Perpignan on the Mediterranean, Marius and five local cyclists will take on some of the most famous climbs in Tour de France history — including the Tourmalet, Aubisque, Aspin, Portet d’Aspet, and Peyresourde — with around 11,000 metres of climbing along the way.
The scenery will be spectacular. The legs, perhaps less so.
The Pyrenees are known for their breathtaking mountain roads, relentless gradients, unpredictable weather, and climbs that seem to go on forever. There will almost certainly be moments of suffering, questionable decision-making, and a lot of snacks. But the challenge is about much more than cycling.
This is Marius’s second fundraising ride for MSF, the humanitarian medical organisation that provides emergency healthcare to people affected by war, disasters, disease outbreaks, and crises around the world.
Previously, Marius cycled solo the entire length of Ireland — from Mizen Head in County Cork to Malin Head in County Donegal — raising £1,480 for MSF along the way.
That journey showed just how generous people can be when supporting a cause that truly matters: the belief that access to medical care should never depend on where someone is born or the circumstances they face.
This time, the mountains are bigger, the days are longer, and the climbs are steeper — but so is the motivation.
While the challenge will last only six days, the impact of donations to MSF can last far longer. MSF teams work in some of the world’s toughest environments, providing surgery, emergency care, vaccinations, maternal healthcare, clean water, and vital humanitarian support to people who urgently need it.
If you’d like to support Marius as he pedals from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean — one mountain pass at a time — every donation will help make a real difference.
