Story

A group of us are taking on the National Three Peaks Challenge in support of Chance to Shine - an incredible charity that help to inspire, educate, and empower young people through cricket across the UK.

The challenge involves climbing the highest mountains in Scotland (Ben Nevis – 1,344m), England (Scafell Pike – 978m), and Wales (Snowdon/Yr Wyddfa – 1,085m), all within 24 hours. That’s around 26 miles on foot and nearly 3,000 meters of ascent!

The catalyst for the attempting the challenge was from the youngest in the party, 14 year old Harry Anderson. When his grandfather died in January the family were deciding on a charity to support for donations in his memory & Chance to Shine was ideal. He saw this challenge on the website and badgered the rest of us friends and family to join in!

Tony Anderson loved Cricket and Cricket gave him so much. Born in 1938, growing up in Acton post war he and his friends would play matches on the debris before cycling to Lords to see their Middlesex heroes of Compton and Edrich, up until his death Tony would often recount memories from the glorious summer of 1947. There were many opportunities to play at school or at the local cricket club and summer spare time was spent in the field. During his early working life he played for the works team alongside the senior managers and this increased exposure helped build his career. He loved that everyone is equal on a cricket field & would enjoy sending down a barrage of bouncers to his headteacher or a business rival!

It’s a tough challenge, but every step will help give more children the chance to play, learn, and grow through cricket. Please donate if you can, your support means the world!
