Story
Thank you for reading my story on Justgiving. I am walking 100km (just over 62 miles!) along the Jurassic Coast on the 18 and 19 May to raise money for the charity Reverse Rett.
About Rett Syndrome: Estimated to affect 1:10,000 females, most children, and adults with Rett are unable to speak, walk, eat or breathe easily. Research has shown that people with Rett Syndrome do not have brain damage. They know and understand much more than their bodies allow them to show – but they are locked in, trapped in a body that cannot obey signals from their brain. It is almost impossible imagine how hard this is for those living with Rett which is why I wanted to get involved.
Through gene therapy, it is forecast that Rett syndrome could be the first rare post-natal neurological disorder to have a cure. This could then impact finding the cure to many other neurological conditions and help so many young children.

The challenge itself: The walk follows the route of the Jurassic Coast Challenge from Corfe Castle to Bridport. 100km of hilly coastal terrain is not going to be easy, even for an experienced athlete like me (ahem). The walk will take over 20 hours to complete, and although it’s daunting, I cannot think of a better cause.
Please give as generously as you can to help fund the cure that they are so close to. Every pound will help fund treatment to delay the severity and impact of symptoms and ultimately lead to Rett syndrome being a thing of the past.
Many thanks in advance
Mark
