Story
On the 24th May 2026, I’ll be taking on something I never imagined I’d do - my first triathlon at age 63.
I’ll be competing in the Swansea Sprint Triathlon - a 750M swim, followed by a 20K bike ride, and finally a 5K run. It’s a massive personal challenge both physically and mentally - but I’m doing it for a cause that has a big impact.
💛 Why I'm Doing This
I’m raising money and also awareness for Matthew’s House (where I am one of approx. 150 volunteers) - a remarkable charity that provides unconditional hospitality for the most vulnerable people in Swansea including those struggling with homelessness, mental health and addiction.
Matthew’s House runs Matt’s Café, where food waste destined for landfill is turned into hearty, home-cooked meals feeding people who really need them. In a typical month they turn excess food from a range of different sources into over 2000 meals.
Matthew’s House also distributes dignity packs to vulnerable women and men who cannot afford essential hygiene products, handing out more than 100 packs each month.
It offers dignity through a homely, large shower room, provides a laundry service and offers friendly advocacy and support from trained volunteers to anyone in need.
It’s a warm, welcoming space where those in need are made to feel safe and supported.
This work is only possible thanks to its volunteers and the kindness and generosity of people who provide financial support.
🙌 How You Can Help
I would be delighted if you could support me with my challenge - every pound donated will go straight to Matthew’s House to help continue their amazing work.
Thank you so much for reading this, for donating, or for cheering me on. Please support Matthew’s House and make every stroke, pedal and step count.
Many thanks.
