We often attend Cranbrook Church in the new town growing near Whimple. It's part of our Mission Community. Our daughter Laura is also a member, and leads the children's work there as well as being in the band. At the moment the church meets in the school, which is fine, but they want to do much more during the week. There are few community spaces in Cranbrook and a building will let them provide so much more for people. The good news is that land has been allocated and funding for a building has been sourced, but the building will need to be furnished and equipped and for that we need to raise £50,000. The Vicar, Jon, is currently walking from Land's End to Cranbrook on the coast path (256 miles) and people from the church are joining him. Here's an excerpt from today's Diocesan News.
Building a New Church One Step at a Time...
A Devon vicar and some members of his church team are nearly halfway through an epic walk from Lands End to Cranbrook to raise funds to build a new church building. Rev'd Jon Holder and his fellow trekkers began their hike on 15 May, starting at the westerrn most tip of England. Over 18 days, they will be walking 256 miles. Jon said, “It’s a whole lot of walking, but I believe it’s totally worth every blister!“ We love Cranbrook and as a church we are passionate about being good news to our community. Essential to this is providing a space for the church to gather and worship and providing desperately needed community space.“Cranbrook is a great place to live, but there’s no church building and very few community facilities. We have a real vision to build something that meets the needs of our community and shares God’s love with them.”
