In Loving Memory of Paul Hunter – Forever Part of Team SWC

In December this year, we lost a true local legend, Paul Hunter – known to many as The Seamer Fox.

Paul’s connection with SWC goes right back to the very early days of Scarborough Window Centre, when we were first installing windows and Paul was one of our trusted fitters. From the beginning, he brought more than just skill to the job, he brought character, humour, and an energy that was impossible to ignore.

Paul had a remarkable ability to make you smile the moment you saw him. He was never short of words, always ready to share his experiences and stories — stories that often felt more like epic tales. “The Fox has arrived” became a familiar phrase, as Paul would turn up at the trade counter most days, pricing his next job and collecting the windows and doors for that day’s fitting. Paul’s sense of humour was infectious. He would often refer to himself as “Foxerelli off the telly in a bowlof jelly” a nickname that still brings a smile to everyone who remembers it.

His outlook on life was truly inspiring. Positive, generous, and endlessly kind, Paul would do anything for anyone. Damon Cook recalls one moment in particular: after Paul spotted him out running, he asked about his fitness goals and suggested going for a bike ride. Damon admitted he didn’t even own a bike, but later that very evening, there was a knock at the door. Standing there was Paul, delivering one. Damon did take him up on that ride, although keeping up was another matter entirely, as Paul powered ahead at every opportunity. They reached the top of a steep hill in Hackness, Damon’s legs burning with the effort, only to find Paul already there, singing at the top of his voice and taking a selfie for his Strava app. If only we could all see the world the way Paul did with positivity, humour, and kindness at its heart.

Paul was deeply respected throughout the Scarborough community, and this was evident on the day of his funeral, where people turned out in their masses to pay their final respects to The Fox. Paul sadly lost his battle with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), a rare and progressive condition that affects the nerves in the brain and spinal cord, causing muscles to weaken over time.

In Paul’s memory, and out of respect for the man he was, we will be organising a sponsored summer walk from Hayburn Wyke to Scarborough. We will also be bringing back “It’ll Be Alright on the Night” at Scarborough Rugby Club on 9th October 2026.

Paul’s wife, Becky, is also taking on her own challenges this year in support of MND, and we hope she may be able to join us at one of our events. Paul was loved and trusted by everyone here at Team SWC, having worked with and for so many of us over the years. He wasn’t just part of our business ...he was part of our story.

Paul, you will be deeply missed by us all. Rest in peace. You will always be remembered as someone who represented a truly special part of our history.
