Mark Emerson is raising money for National Autistic Society

London Marathon 2025 · 27 April 2025 ·

The National Autistic Society is here to transform lives, change attitudes and create a society that works for autistic people. There is still so much to do to increase opportunities, reduce social isolation and build a brighter future for autistic people. With your help, we can make it happen.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have decided to raise funds for National Autistic Society (NAS) who have been providing support, guidance and advice, as well as campaigning for improved rights, services and opportunities to help create a society that works for autistic people.

I have personal experience of Autism and the inadequacies in the current system which certainly can be improved. Many children with autism can be left behind in the education system and never reach their full potential , but charities such as NAS can help.

Whilst autism and more widely neurodivergence is becoming more recognised and accepted there is still a long way to go to get full help for everyone . Particularly vital is support and guidance in early years . Too often neurodiverse children are dismissed as naughty and disruptive. Actually they are square pegs forced into round holes. Rather than shave off the square peg to make it fit , we could make the round hole bigger

This is where an Education Health and Care plan (EHCP) comes in , but these can take up to two years to obtain. Funding in main stream schools is woefully lacking and specialist schools are few and far between.
