Hi everyone, my name is Mark Flahant, in a world where technology opens doors to opportunity, too many are still left behind. The WCIT Charity , the philanthropic arm of the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists, is on a mission to change that.
I’m about to take on a wild adventure with an awesome bunch of colleagues at Squiz — we’re cycling all the way from our Edinburgh office to our London office! 🚴♂️
The plan is to cover just over 900km in 7 days — that’s around 130km a day! And because we like a challenge (apparently), we’ll also be tackling about 5,867 metres of climbing along the way... yep, that’s actually more than the ascent from Everest Base Camp to the summit 😅
What have I gotten myself into?! Bring it on! 💪✨
Through the generosity of its Livery members, the charity funds innovative, life-changing projects across the UK – empowering communities, transforming lives, and ensuring that no one is excluded from the digital age.
Grants are made to a wide range of projects that have recently included pioneering drone technology to aid search and rescue missions, AI applications to boost the impact of small charities, and assistive tech that gives independence to people with disabilities. It also supports many grassroots initiatives that teach vulnerable individuals how to access digital tools and stay safe online.
The charity has an impressive reach: by focussing on projects where its modest grants can have a powerful ripple effect, or where members can provide complementary pro bono expertise, it improves the lives of hundreds of thousands of beneficiaries across the UK each year.
If you are able please consider making a donation, your support will help the charity achieve even more. Together, we can ensure that technology is a force for good – for everyone.
