Update at 21 August
WE DID IT!!!!
The Dorset Doddle is the most inappropriately-named event, as the last thing it is is a doddle. It’s tough, tough, tough - physically and mentally. 32 miles of undulating coast path, from sea level to clifftop to sea level, rough tracks, some really steep ascents and descents, and all to be done in a 12 hour time limit…..oh yeah, and some great scenic views.
Mark thought this was the hardest thing he’d ever done (expletives deleted), but scampering up the hills and charging down them, he did brilliantly well completing the challenge and his first ultramarathon. Graham’s was a more sedate affair (he is older after all), finishing in the dark but also completing the challenge, in what was his 40th trail marathon! Safe to say that today, being the day after the event, neither of us can walk!
Circumstances and fear of being timed out caused us to separate for the second half, but the seriousness of the cause kept us both going. Grateful thanks to those who have already donated to our MND fund. We have amazingingly just reached £1,000! but if you’d like add to the total that would be great! Thanks. Thank you for vising our JustGiving page supporting the MND Association.
Here is the inspiration behind the fundraiser:
Mark Heath
"I’ve supported Leeds Rhinos Rugby League team since I was a child.
For 16 years Rob Burrow was an integral part of a very successful team.
Sadly just 2 years after retiring at the age of 37 he was diagnosed with MND.
His well publicised battle with this disease is my inspiration for doing this walk. My fundraising is to help people in West Dorset who are also fighting this cruel disease."
Graham Sutton
"A few years ago, I had a dear friend and neighbour who had
motor neurone disease later in life. When MND strikes, it is really
hard for the person, the family and friends to cope with the effects of
the disease. We need to help the MNDA fund more research into the
disease, and continue to provide much-needed support to all those
affected. Research and support need paying for, and that's why
I am doing this, my second MNDA fundraising walk.
For my friend Joan, this is in your memory - this is for you."
ALL PROCEEDS FROM THIS FUNDRAISER WILL GO TO THE MNDA WEST DORSET BRANCH.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and secure, your details are safe – they’ll never sell them or send unwanted emails.
Thank you once again for your support.
