Story
We are eternally grateful to Weldmar Hospice for the exceptional care and support our Dad, David Greensit, received during his final months. I can hardly imagine how we would have managed that difficult time without their help.
To honour our beloved Dad and commemorate one year since his passing, I am planning to swim the entire length of Chesil Beach in a single day on July 12th. My hope is that this challenge will raise awareness for Weldmar Hospicecare, which provides vital specialist care for adults in Dorset facing life-limiting illnesses (https://www.weldmarhospicecare.org/patients-family-friends/).
The 18-mile stretch from West Bay to Portland is comparable to swimming the English Channel and is 15 miles longer than any distance I have ever attempted.
This stretch of the Jurassic Coast holds a special place in my heart, as it is woven into my Dad's memories. His stories of being a seine-net fisherman and catching mackerel off Chesil as a young man was something he looked back on with great pride and nostalgia. Whenever I think of Chesil, I smile and remember my Dad. Swimming this route, while passing by his favourite spots, would mean the world to me.
He would likely think I’m a bit crazy for taking on such a challenge, but I know he would be there cheering me on every step of the way.
I invite you to support this charity and take a moment to remember my Dad. I also encourage everyone to join in the day’s festivities, whether by cheering from the beach or swimming a short leg with me. Thank you for your support!
