This is Daisy- Just before Daisy’s 1st birthday we had a teams call with a health visitor, she said don’t worry all is fine, over the next few months she’ll say her first words.
Those first words never came and to this date Daisy is still non-verbal.
After Daisy’s second birthday we managed to get her referred for an assessment as we were told she may be autistic by her nursery.
14 months later we reached the top of the waiting list and Daisy is now slowly being assessed for autism.
It’s not been easy, As time went on Daisy developed well in some areas, but really struggled in others.
Both Sam and I have been through real down patches watching everyone else’s child progress, meet targets, and seem to flourish and yet Daisy didn’t.
Daisy became very noise sensitive which led to us almost stopping going out or having to cut short any adventures due to melt downs.
We’ve been left feeling helpless and quite often blaming ourselves
Through social media, we found Beat Autism, a local run charity, we started going to their sessions at Cloud 9 in Ossett.
Daisy could go and run around, if she had a meltdown it was ok and safe, very quickly we got help, we were guided who to talk to, what questions to ask, what help to ask for and now a year later Daisy is now at full time nursery with support in place.
Without Beat Autisms help - and talking to the other parents we’d be lost,
So I’ve decided to run the Rob Burrow marathon, to try raise funds for them.
I want to raise some money for this special charity so it can continue to help parents who need help and haven’t got a clue where to go.
So if you can, please sponsor me, and if you can’t no worries, just wave if you see me training or give me jelly babies
