ARC of Attrition 100miles · 24 January 2025

We help people with PMR & GCA, & raise awareness about these diseases that can attack people aged 50+. PMR causes extreme pain in the muscles & joints & affects mobility. GCA can cause sudden blindness if not treated immediately. We can save more people's sight by raising awareness.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Update 20/12/24; Massive thank you to all those that have donated, featuring the PMR/GCA magazine has clearly driven up interest! Have reached £1000 target already so have increased it to £1500.

Have twisted my knee slightly but seem to still be able to run on it so praying it doesn't get any worse before the big day.

Update 2/11/24; Thank you all who have donated so far, your generous donations are much appreciated. I have now run my first 100km race which I hope will serve me well for trying to complete the Arc 100 miles.

I'm a rheumatology consultant based in Truro Cornwall, with a sub-specialist interest in PMR and GCA. I've seen first hand the great work the PMRGCA UK charity does to support patients with this condition and help fund research to improve management of these relatively common but potentially life altering conditions.

I've recently gained a taste for ultramarathons along the Cornish coast and have completed 50km(31 miles) and 72km(44 miles) events so far.

However this January I hope to be able to go twice as far as I've ever done before and complete Cornwall's toughest race, the Arc of Attrition, 165km(103miles) from Coverack on the Lizard Peninsula, all the way to Porthtowan, visiting Lands End and St Ives on the way.

Any support you can offer is most welcome for a worthy cause.
