Story
In 2020 after dodging a VERY BIG covid bullet - (intensive care, life support - the whole 9 yards) I went for an MOT - partly because I'd been so ill and partly because I was late 50's and thought a check up might be a good thing.
I discovered - with no symptoms at all that I had Prostate Cancer - 2 tumours just for good measure and was fast tracked for surgery.
After great medical care by the fantastic people at London Bridge, The Royal Marsden and Guys - I came out and started the long road to recovery.
I am now approaching 5 years post Op and during those years - have seen no fewer than 7 of my close friends and people I know diagnosed with the disease and having to undergo the complex decision making and treatment protocols. Several have had far more serious prognosis and treatment journeys than my own.
I also know in addition of at least 3 people who have died from the illness.
So i am attempting to complete The TREK FOR CHANGE - an arduous and demanding trek in the Pyrenees that follows the Freedom Trail, or 'Chemin de la Liberté, one of the toughest WW2 escape routes from Nazi-occupied France into Spain. .
The trek is tough, following remote trails reaching approx. 2500m
I am 62, overweight and have bad knees - what could possibly go wrong!
Prostate Cancer Research (PCR) are dedicated to creating brand new prostate cancer treatments. Prostate cancer is now the most diagnosed cancer in the UK and 11,500 men die from the disease every year. People affected by prostate cancer need breakthrough treatments, and research is the only way to turn this hope into reality.
Their vision is clear; a world where people are free from the impact of prostate cancer.
I firmly believe this is a disease we CAN beat and I want you to help me help them to do just that - in time to ensure our children and grandchildren don't have to suffer in the same way.
So please help me and #TeamPCR over them thar mountains and support their research!
