Story

Thank you for visiting my sponsorship page.

Action Medical Research is the leading UK-wide charity saving and changing children’s lives through medical research. For over 70 years we’ve helped pioneer ways to prevent disease and develop treatments benefiting millions of people. Our research has helped to beat polio in the UK, develop ultrasound, fight meningitis and prevent stillbirths. But we urgently need to develop more new treatments and cures for sick babies and children and we can’t do it without you.

Join our fight for little lives.

So I decided to plan another challenge to raise money for Action Medical Research. But this time it is going to be a little different. I’ve taken on some massive cycle challenges with AMR, riding London to Paris, doing the Dirty Reiver 130km gravel event and lots of other sportives.

I never take for granted the distances I now ride and I’m fully aware how daunting and tough some of these distances were when I was starting out.

So this year to raise money, I’m going to attempt to take somebody who doesn’t ride, hasn’t ridden since they were a child and are by their own admission out of shape and unfit, and train them and work with them to accomplish a huge achievement. They are going to attempt to ride 100km!!!

When I posted the idea that I had, so many people messaged to say they were interested so thank you to everyone who was open to the challenge.

Action Medical Research Events do such incredible work helping poorly babies, children and unborn infants with new medicines and vaccines.

To ride 100km is massive, on a bike this is seen to be the equivalent to running a marathon.

So the person I have chosen is called Dan Kelly.

I’ve known Dan many years and he is such a top guy.

When discussing the idea Dan had this to say…

“I've been threatening to lose weight for years and have done nothing. I’m seriously unfit, so yeah why not. It might be the kick up the ass I need!

Not sure i would make it mind!

I haven't ridden a bike in years or exercised really.

I’m definitely a big challenge mate. I would love to get the weight off and start on the way back to getting in decent shape again for sure.

It’s mega to have the opportunity to have your help so am definitely grateful for help with this and I know it’s not going to be easy. Also well up for raising some money for a good cause!”

What started as just an idea to help someone ride their first 100km has escalated slightly into something even more amazing. Dan has a young family, 3 young children and a wife and I know he would enjoy feeling healthier and fitter for himself but also them.

Dan is going to look to drop weight, gain muscle, get fit and proper attack this challenge! I’ll be helping with diet, exercise and all his training. I’ll be providing Dan with a bike to train and ride on the big day and I’ll be by his side on that special day to support him as we make our way round.

Date of event to be confirmed, we will see how training goes but we are looking September time this year.

Also, this isn’t me trying out to be a cycling coach lol. With a business of my own and young family I have enough on. But this is my way of helping Action Medical Research, a charity close to my heart raise some vital money and if I can improve someone’s health and future and get one more person cycling along the way…. Then that’s even better!

Stay tuned for more updates, and please give Dan some love and support! He is going to be amazing!
