Story
My good friend and fellow proud Hegian - Andy Dawson - has been on his ‘Big C’ journey for some time. He recently came under the care of St Gemma’s Hospice and I was lucky enough to visit him recently.
Andy spoke with the highest of praise for St Gemma’s and its team in what they have been able to do to not only make him comfortable at an incredibly low point in his journey, but what they also offered his family - what they do is priceless, and it’s so clear to see when you’re there.
Those of you that know me will know that running’s not my thing. I’d happily chase a ball round a rugby pitch for a bit, but that would need to be followed by a rest in a scrum in short order. But I’ve signed up to the Leeds Half Marathon on 10th May (thanks SR!). I did this to challenge myself, but after watching Andy on his journey, and visiting him at St Gemma’s, it was clear that I could do more. I asked Andy if I could fundraise on his behalf for St Gemma’s and his face instantly lit up (no surprise there for those that know him!).
So here we are. If you are in a position to give anything to support this wonderful charity, your support will instantly do unbelievable things for families in their darkest times. And for my part, I’ll use that to fuel every step of that run. Or walk. Or crawl if I need to!
Thank you in advance!
