Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Having completed some arduous treks over recent years, I said that last year would be my last, but when Dan Osborne said he wanted Jays Aim to run a charity trek to Kilimanjaro, would I be in, well of course. A further challenge to push myself, the training needed and the event itself, really helps me, mentally and physically. To raise monies for not only the charity that I work with and to complete a climb which has always been on my to do list, is a match made in heaven. I know you have been very generous in the past, I if it’s a no this time, that’s fine.
Delivering CPR and defib training has brought home to me how much is needed to support others and to help save a life.
Jay’s Aim was established in 2018, with the target of reducing the rate of sudden cardiac death among young people here in South-West England.
Knowing that :
Every week in the UK, an estimated 12 young people die from an undiagnosed heart condition, with approximately 80% showing no prior signs or symptoms.
If a defibrillator is used and effective CPR is performed within 3-5 minutes of cardiac arrest, survival chances increase from 6% to 74%.
Less than 1 in 10 people survive a cardiac arrest in the UK, however in countries such as Norway, where CPR is taught on the national curriculum, up to 4 in 10 people survive.
We are a small but perfectly formed group of 6, Not only will Dan be there but also my fellow presenter Kirsty and friend of 40 years Sandra. I know this is possibly the most difficult one I’ve ever done, to reach just under 6,000 metres is going to be hard especially as the trek takes around 8 days.
As before I will self fund my own costs, but hope to raise monies for Jays Aim, whilst pushing myself.
