Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

For those of you that know me I enjoy my running and I have been known to do mad things in terms of running in the past. In the next couple of months, I will be taking on one of the longest races that is run in our Capital, The London Ultra. There are two distances you can opt to run (25 and 55Km). You guessed it I am going to attempt the 55Km. As many of you will be aware if you have spoken to me about running, I enjoy raising monies for charities, and nothing affects us more nowadays than Cancer.

Unfortunately, you will be like me in being able to remember family and colleagues that we have had to say goodbye to too early owing to this horrible illness. Therefore, the biggest honour is to be running for Cancer Research UK.

I have been in the department in its many forms for over 40 years and for over 22 of those as a manager. As a manager I have had to witness several colleagues and staff suffer and battle against Cancer, but one thing has been remarkable with all of them is the fight and determination they have shown, some of them knowing that they will not survive, but remaining strong whilst this illness tries to take them over. Therefore, I believe that the least I can do is put up with a bit of pain whilst training for sixteen weeks and during the race itself to honour their memory and the fight they went through. Hopefully the funds I raise will go some way in helping to find a cure.

I would be grateful if you could help me in achieving my goal of £1,000 and hopefully surpass it. I know with everything that is happening in the world things are more expensive, but I ask you to give whatever you can in memory of our colleagues, friends and family members who have had to suffer so that people in the future may have hope of a cure. If you cannot I will understand, but I would also ask for your support. This is my first London Ultra and I know how hard it is so I would value your support. The Ultra is on 22nd June this year and it would be great to see some of you on the route. I will be posting updates periodically to let you know how my training is progressing and details of how you can track me on race day if you cannot come along to the event itself.

Thank you to you all for whatever support you can give

Mark.
