I'm running a half marathon for Childrens Burns Trust

Marko Closs is raising money for Children's Burns Trust

Birmingham Running Festival Half Marathon · 5 April 2026

We are celebrating 25 years of making a difference for children impacted by a burn or scald injury. 2025 offers us the opportunity to reflect on the amazing families and organisations we have supported and make plans for another fantastic 25 years.

Story

Bryony and I are fundraising for the Children’s Burns Trust by running in the Birmingham Running Festival on 5th April 2026. I’ll be running the half marathon and Bry is running the 10km.

The reason we chose the Children’s Burns Trust is that in November last year, our son Otis pulled a whole cup of hot tea over himself. It turned our world upside down. He suffered burns on his head and face, neck, chest, back and arm, and at the time, we had no idea about the severity or impact of the injury that he would be facing.

We were incredibly lucky to receive the care and support we needed from the paramedics and team at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. Fortunately, Otis has recovered, only being left with minor scars which should completely fade over time.

Burn injuries happen quickly, in everyday moments. It opened our eyes to how common childhood burns are, how easily they happen and how vital specialist care, education and support are for families going through it.

Children’s Burns Trust provide support and rehabilitation for burned and scald-injured children and their families, as well as prevention and awareness campaigns for which there is no national funding. They receive no government funding and are only able to continue the work they do as a result of fundraising efforts.

If you’re able to donate on either of our pages, no matter how small, you’ll be helping families who are facing some of the hardest days of their lives.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story and supporting this cause.
