Story
Why is it so important?
We all know someone, a family member, a friend, a colleague, whose life has been affected by diabetes. For me, it became personal during my second pregnancy when I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. What should have been a time filled with joy and hope was clouded by physical and emotional challenges. Although both my baby and I were well after birth, the story didn’t end there.
In 2023, pre-diabetes came knocking. It was a major shock. Despite knowing the increased risk of type 2 diabetes after the gestational diabetes diagnosis, that didn’t lessen the blow. I knew I had to act, something had to change. So, I got to work. I became fully committed to transforming my lifestyle and since, I lost 34kg (5 stone 5lbs) , reversed pre-diabetes, and reclaimed my health.

Now, I see hope, and through knowledge and awareness I am able to maintain that change.
As a nurse, I have witnessed the long-lasting impact diabetes can have. Now, in my current role, I stand with a team that is working hard to develop robust diabetes care. This race isn’t about me. It is for everyone living, or at risk of, developing diabetes. It is for those I love, for those close to me, and for those I have never met. It is to support Diabetes UK and their vision of a world where diabetes can do no harm.
