On Friday 27 November, ten of us from Martello Manor in Hythe are swapping our warm beds for a sleeping bag and a cardboard box.

We'll sleep out at Hythe Town Football Club from 4pm until 7am the next morning, as part of Folkestone Rainbow Centre's BIG Sleep Out: Your Way. There'll be team games and a shelter-building competition, but we know one night only gives us a small insight. For people who are homeless near us, it isn't one night.

The money we raise supports the Rainbow Centre's Homeless Support Service, FoodStop and Winter Shelter. That means somewhere to shower, fresh clothes and breakfast at the day centre. It means a bed and a cooked meal each night in the Winter Shelter. And it means advice and someone in your corner, helping people towards a home of their own.

One man the centre supported, aged 65, lost his caravan and everything he owned and ended up sleeping rough. A Winter Shelter bed was his first step into sheltered housing.

Our target is £1,000, and Boutique Care Homes is putting £250 towards it.

Local? You can also drop an unwanted winter coat at Martello Manor, 18 Farmer Road, Hythe.

Care doesn't stop at our front door. Please donate what you can and share this page. Thank you.
