Story
Thank you for taking the time to look at my fundraising page.
On the 2nd of March 2025 I will be running the Brighton Half Marathon to help raise funds for Martlets Hospice in Brighton.
My family and I have a special relationship with Martlets.
It all began back in 2022 when my Dad received the dreadful news that he had been diagnosed with cancer, this was followed by around a year of various treatments including chemotherapy and radiotherapy in attempts to fight it, however the cancer was far too aggressive and had spread too far that we got the crushing news that it had become terminal.
In January 2023 Dad moved into Martlets Hospice where he received round the clock care from all of the staff there, this helped massively with keeping pain to a minimum. Unlike many hospitals Dad had his own room the entire time which was decorated with flowers and family photos. We were also allowed to visit at any time of day for as long as we wanted, which meant we could spend so much quality time with Dad. They were also very understanding when it came to evening visits to the pub!
Sadly, after about a year and a half of fighting Dad passed away in March 2024.
I miss him every day and will be running for him.
A hospice is a place you hope you never have to visit, and unless you have direct experience of one, you'll likely not know the full value of what they are able to provide, offering comfort and warmth in the darkest of times for both patient and family and friends.
I truly could not imagine how things would have been without Martlets, this is the reason I want to ensure Martlets have the much-needed funds to continue providing the care they do for all families in need.

I have never ran anywhere near 21k before, so I best get training!
Thank you in advance for any donations you may choose to make, every amount will go to a great cause.
Message from Martlets:
Martlets is a local charity providing essential care to people affected by terminal illness in Brighton and Hove, and surrounding areas. Our expert teams provide the very best care and support, helping patients and their loved ones to live life to the full during the precious time they have together.
Most people receive care from us in their own homes. Others choose to spend their final days on our inpatient unit, or to join us as inpatients for respite care or symptom management. Outpatients also visit our hospice for pain relief, physiotherapy, counselling, welfare advice and social activities; some of these services were adapted during the COVID pandemic and continue to be offered via telephone and online video sessions.
Martlets care is free thanks to the support of local people, businesses, and trusts. An NHS grant covers a portion of our costs, but we rely on the community to fund most of our vital services.
