Story
In February 2025 I went in for a routine hernia operation and unfortunately suffered an undetected perforated bowel. Over the next two days I was in significant and increasing pain, which was misdiagnosed as constipation due to pain medication.
Eventually I was rushed into A&E suffering with Sepsis and Septic shock leading to multiple organ failure.
I underwent emergency surgery and was put into an induced coma for three weeks. I spent 6 weeks in ICU before being discharged to the ward and eventually home.
At the time of my discharge I had lost significant weight and couldn’t even walk without the use of crutches or a zimmer frame.
I’m currently on a long road to recovery and being a keen runner I am hoping to be able to get back out and about. Running the Great North Run will be a challenge but one I’m looking forward to taking up.
Sepsis Trust have been a great help to me over this time. The support they offer is invaluable. Being able to chat about all things, both physical and mental, with one of their nurses offers people like me a great deal of comfort.
I’m very pleased to have this opportunity to try and give something back to them and to help them continue to help survivors and families, raise awareness to both the public and health care professionals and generally be there for people when they need them.
Anything you can give is very much appreciated.
Thanks for taking time to read this very long post!

UK Sepsis Trust
Fundraising is at the heart of our fight against sepsis. With your support, we can make a difference!
It raises awareness, and sparks the question: What is sepsis? In this way, fundraising can help prevent thousands of deaths & unnecessary suffering through knowledge & awareness of the symptoms.
It also funds our vital support work, Public Awareness, Educating Health Professionals & helping people adjust to life after sepsis through accessing our Support Group network. We also lobby government to support our cause and makes vital changes in areas such as the NHS.
