Story

Cruse - About Us

Thanks for taking the time to visit my fundraising page.

I’ve been involved in voluntary work & charity fundraising from being young. But when my partner died in late 2016, I had the motivation to help, support and boost awareness for those charities who had helped me and those closest to me.

During 2024 I am raising awareness for bereavement support through Cruse. A charity that specialises in any kind of bereavement and who supported me through some of my toughest times.

They are a seemingly unassuming charity, despite being the UK’s leading bereavement support charity. They have been supporting people for the last 60 years, with one of the only issues that we’re all pretty much guaranteed to face at one point in our lives. Every penny raised will go to Cruse, to help them invest in facilities and people so they can deliver support & services to individuals who need it during some of their most difficult moments in life.

Cuillin Ridge Challenge - May 2024 -

Day 1 -

Set out from Glen Brittle Camp Site and walk into Gars-Bheinn, the official start point of the traverse. From here the fun begins as we cross over peak after peak scrambling and climbing our way over some of the most impressive terrain in the UK. The aim for that day is to complete seven main summits including Sgurr Alasdair, the highest peak on the ridge at 992m (3255ft), and the “Inaccessible Pinnacle” (Inn Pinn). Then it’s time to find a good spot to set up camp for the night and watch the sun set.

Day 2 -

Greet the dawn on top of the ridge after a night under the stars.

Then finish off the Northern Section of the ridge covering some complex terrain as we approach the finish line on Sgurr nan Gillean at 966m (3169ft). After a celebratory ascent of the west ridge of the final peak, Sgurr nan Gillean we will stagger down the peaks, happy in the knowledge that we have conquered the UKs finest mountaineering challenge!

Spanish National Three Peaks - September 2024 -

Day 1 -

Head to Spain from the UK.

Day 2 -

Alcazaba (3,371m) We make an early start today in preparation for the toughest day of our challenge – the ascent of Alcazaba, located to the north of Mulhacén. After catching the bus to Alta del Chorrillo from Capileira our challenge begins, and we follow the south ridge for an hour before following the eastern traverse of Mulhacen to Siete Lagunas. After replenishing our water suppies, we ascend the valley before tackling a steep scree gully that leads to the summit plateau. After summiting, we make our way back down the mountain. Trekking distance – approx. 16km. Ascent 1,040m.

Day 3 -

Veleta (3,394m). Our challenge begins! Following breakfast we make the transfer from Lanjarón to the Hoya de la Mora, located at 2,500m. We begin our ascent of the north ridge of Veleta, the third highest peak in mainland Spain. The trekking is rough and rocky, and our journey to the summit will take approximately 3 hours. From the summit there are outstanding views in all directions, especially southwards where on a clear day we can see as far as Morocco! After we’ve taken in the views, we conclude our days trek with an ascent of Cerro de los Machos, before making our way back down. Trekking distance – approx. 16km / 8 hours. Ascent 900m.

Day 4 -

Mulhacén - 3,482m (11424ft). Our final day in the mountains! After an early start, we catch the National Park bus from Capileira to Mirador de Trevelez. From here we ascend the steep and rocky west flank of Mulhacén, the highest peak in mainland Spain. From the summit we can see the whole chain of the Sierra Nevada range - if the weather is on our side! We descend via the long and gentle south ridge. Trekking distance – approx. 11km / 7 hours. Ascent 1,000m.

Day 5 -

Depart for the UK.
