Story
As most of you will be aware, I have recently just completed running a minimum of 5km every day for the last 3 years. A lot of people have asked me during that time whether I was doing it for charity - I haven't, it was just me being a bit of an idiot! However, it has made me think on a number of occassions that I could have raised some money for a good cause. I decided last year that I would like to try and have a go at a marathon and I was recently able to secure a place in the Manchester Marathon on Sunday 14th April - I am now looking to use this as an opportunity for raising some funds.
I was leaning towards a cancer based charity - especially after my dad went through treatment after his diagnosis in 2021. More recently, our closest family friend, Joanne, has been diagnosed with breast cancer and is now on her recovery journey. Additionally, I know many other friends and family who have had to deal with breast cancer. Therefore, after some careful consideration, I have selected the Marina Dalglish Appeal. This charity is well known locally for the work it does for breast cancer patients but additionally, whilst doing my research, I discovered that in 2019 they helped Broadgreen Hospital to purchase the surgical robot system at the Centre of Excellence for Urologic Oncology - which was used in my dad's surgery. So, it’s reassuring to know that any money that I raise for this charity is used locally and also that it benefits people who are very close to me.
I know there are lots of sponsorship requests and things can be a bit tight so no obligation for donations. My employers, Lloyds Banking Group, run a matched giving scheme so I should be able to apply for a donation from them as well.
