My wife Janet and I motorcycling in the Atacama Desert, South America
Following the recent liquidation of Wing Walk Buzz, I just wanted to thank you all for your ongoing support. While I was disappointed not to have been able to take to the skies on 3rd August as planned – I have not been deterred! I’m pleased to announce that I have secured a new date and will be completing my wing walk at Henstridge Airfield on 27th September. Who doesn’t like a challenge on their birthday?!
I am an 80-year-old retired chartered mechanical engineer who is very fortunate to still be healthy and fit. It is however not the case for many people each year who sadly require the assistance of Hospiscare in their later years. The modern hospice concept includes palliative care for the incurably ill in institutions such as hospitals and nursing homes, along with at-home care. The first modern hospice care was created by Dame Cicely Saunders in 1967 and it wasn’t until 1982 that Hospiscare, the local adult hospice charity for Exeter, Mid and East Devon was founded. Since then, Hospiscare has continued to grow and today it supports thousands of patients every year.
There are many ways to fundraise for Hospiscare, whether you fancy an adrenaline-fuelled challenge or just want to invite friends over for coffee. I am fortunate to have done quite a few adventurous things in my life so far. For 65 years I have been lucky to motorcycle in various parts of the world such as India, South America, and many other countries. However, my other great passion is flying. To date I have managed to experience flight in a hot air balloon and an airship, besides the usual airplane, helicopter, and microlight. I have a private pilot’s license and the culmination of my active piloting was to spend an hour flying dual in a Mk.9. Spitfire.
So, what next? Well, I have not yet done a Wing Walk, and what better way to experience another form of flight, have another adventure, and at the same time raise money for Hospiscare? I am self-funding the cost of the Wing Walk and I therefore have no specific donation target to meet. Whatever your generous contribution, it will all go to Hospiscare.
Many thanks in advance.
