Story
Hello everyone! In May 2026 I’m taking on a huge personal challenge: a 66-mile ultra-marathon around the Isle of Wight. It’s the furthest I’ve ever run and will push me mentally and physically, but I’m doing it for a cause very close to my heart. Daisy Chains IW Children’s Charity.
Why Daisy Chains?
Daisy Chains IW is a small volunteer-run charity that supports Isle of Wight children with life-limiting illnesses, disabilities or long-term health problems and their families. Founded in 2012 by Island parents Kellie Lawrence and Mandy Fuller after experiencing the struggle of travelling to mainland hospitals with their own children, the charity fills a gap where no government funding exists.
They provide:
Emergency travel grants – ferry tickets and travel costs for families who must rush to mainland hospitals for urgent care.
General travel and accommodation support for scheduled medical appointments.
Equipment and therapy grants for aids not available on the NHS.
Daisy Wishes, a new programme that grants special wishes for children with life-limiting conditions or those in end-of-life care.
During the pandemic, demand for their help surged while fundraising events were cancelled. The charity had to book ferries almost every day and even had to restrict help to emergencies. They currently support around 40 children on a regular basis.
Your donation makes a real difference
A little goes a long way with Daisy Chains:
£20 buys a costa voucher for a family In hospital to grab a coffee and a break from being by the bedside.
£40 will top up our baby essential trolley on the IW NICU for a week.
£50 buys a food voucher to support a family who are living in the hospital with microwave meals and sandwiches while there .
£55 buys a return ferry crossing for a child to get to an essential appointment.
£65 will provide a bag of essentials for the parent of a premature baby that has been transferred to Portsmouth or Southampton hospital, which are there for them when they arrive.
£75 will buy an essential shopping delivery for a family that is struggling with buying food as they have a poorly child in hospital or at home.
£130 will buy a book of 40 red jet single tickets for a family to use to get back and forth while having essential treatment in hospital or for the parents of a premature baby to see their baby regularly.
Monthly gifts of £3, £5 or £10 help cover travel and equipment.
