Dementia is now the leading cause of death in the UK. It’s a devastating and complex condition. 1 in 2 of us will be directly affected by dementia in our lifetime, there is no cure. There are 980,000 people living with dementia in the UK. We at Dementia Support are there for all those who need our help. We reduce loneliness, give the best quality care and provide hope, supporting the whole family.

For a number of years together with my family and cousins amongst others I have been involved in the care of my dad, my aunt and more recently my mother in-law, all of whom suffered from dementia with various levels of intensity.

As anyone who has had a similar experience to us will know its not easy or straightforward to maintain a sufficient level of care as a group of willing relatives to someone who basically needs specialist help. It certainly was a period of learning for all of us so having seen the amazing facilities and specialist care that Sage House can provide as a day care unit I can appreciate how they would be able to improve the quality of life to both the patient and the family carers for anyone who has access to such a facility.

So at the grand old age of 75 and all being well I'll be running the London marathon on Sunday the 26th April. 2026.

Finally, Sage House is a marvellous facility and you can rest assured that every penny raised on my behalf for this charity will be well used to help those who find themselves in need of their care and support.
